  5. Anderson and Burckle This past summer, 3 REU students, 2 supported by an NSF-OPP grant, 1 by Dallas Abbott’s REU program, and 1 non REU student. The students were working on stratigraphy and paleo-productivity of the Southern Ocean. 2 presenting results at Fall AGU meeting. 1 presenting results at the Ocean Sciences meeting. Goldstein and Hemming 2 undergraduate students studying the provenance of Antarctic detritus and patterns of dispersion in the Circum-Antarctic during the Holocene and LGM funded by OPP. Goldstein A high school student from Westchester studying polar volcanism as part of the Gakkel Ridge grant. Examples of Student Research Experiences

Earth2Class” (E2C) is a unique science/math /technology learning resource for K-12 students, teachers, and administrators created through the collaboration of researchers at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, curriculum and technology integration specialists from Teachers College, Columbia University, and classroom teachers from the New York City metropolitan area. E2C relies on the synergy of specialists in curriculum, educational technology, and scientific research, but the key feature is involvement of the Lamont scientists.

Climate and WaterRequired of all MPAs in Environmental Science and Policy Discussion sessions involve the critical assessment of either controversial scientific positions related to climate and water issues, or more detailed descriptions of issues viewed in class. These sessions will involve and require small group interactions, reporting, and in some instances the debate of researched materials assigned prior to scheduled meetings. Laboratory sessions involve both hands-on and minds-on exercises that will require either individual or small group work/reporting.
