  1. Diving Into Science

  2. Warm Up Imagine it is 3:00PM and you just got home from school. You have a pet dog that needs to go out for a walk and be fed before it gets dark at 6:00PM. You also have estimated that you have three hours of homework to do and it must be done by 7:00 PM. Your challenge is to get it all done. List the criteria and constraints of this challenge and your plan for meeting this challenge. How would you get it all done?

  3. Scientists work together by… • working together on experiments • keeping careful notes so that other scientists can perform their experiments • graphing their data so that they are able to better explain their data to others • publishing the results of their findings

  4. Scientists work together by… • borrowing ideas from one other, but giving credit • splitting up parts of a challenge to get the job done faster and more efficiently • giving positive, constructive feedback to one another

  5. Iteration • A repetition that attempts to improve on a process or product

  6. Solution Briefing • An opportunity during the design process to share design plans and get advice from others.

  7. Collaborate • To work together

  8. Break up into groups of 4-5 people, there should not be anyone in your group from last class. Share your answers to what your criteria & constraints were and how you designed your book support. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone must share! • When you are done sharing, answer the questions in your group and record them in your notebook. • Why did you design and build it the way you did? • How did the challenge constraints affect you? • If you could change your design, how would you? • What was the most difficult challenge of working in a group? • What was positive about working in a group?
