  1. Summer School Experimental models of brain diseases April 3rd to 6th, 2012 Cyceron center, Caen (France) As part of the TC2N program, the INSERM U919 «Serine Proteases and Pathophysiology of the Neurovascular Unit» and the group CERVOxy “Hypoxia, Cerebrovascular and Tumoral pathophysiologies” of the UMR CNRS 6301 «Imaging and Therapeutical Strategies in Cerebral and Tumoral pathologies» will organize a Summer School entitled «EXPERIMENTAL MODELS OF BRAIN DISEASES: STROKE, GLIOMA AND MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS». Purpose: to present through theoretical and practical courses, the principles and the implementation of several animal models used for research in the fields of cerebral ischemia, brain tumors and multiple sclerosis. It will enable trainees to become familiar with some models of their choice and acquire technical practice to evaluate brain damage and functional deficits in these models. Preliminary program: Day 1: - Review of animal models of cerebral ischemia, brain tumors and multiple sclerosis - Visit of laboratories and equipments - Demonstration of surgeries. Day 2: - Practice of surgery. Day 3: - Practice of surgeries and brain damage assessments (using MRI, histology, behavioral tasks ...). Day 4: - Conferences (speakers to be announced). The number of attendees is limited to 10 for the practical part. Open to all for the conferences on April 6th. Contacts: Carine Ali (ali@cyceron.fr) and Omar Touzani (touzani@cyceron.fr).
