The history… Last year, Lochie Gould and Daniel Bastow approached Mr Cook with a plan - to organise a group of older students to help younger students: • to reduce the level of bullying in Woolgoolga High School • to identify and resolve problems • to make stronger connections between students • to give students a better experience at school. “We’ve been there and we know what it’s like”

The history… This year we developed the plan: • had discussions (and pizza) with Mrs Hall • gained Principal’s and Head Teacher approval • talked to SRC / Prefects • organised Year 12 Talk • organised Year 11 Talk • recruited mentors • informed the P & C • had a Training Day • spoke to the staff

  4. What is it for? What the program can provide: • Social Support • Positive reinforcement • Alternative options • Self-esteem and confidence building activities • Ways to deal with bullying • Ways to deal with anger outbursts • Someone to listen Students with: • Social issues – getting on with others • Behaviour problems • Drug and alcohol issues • Peer pressure • Family problems • Bullying • Schoolwork issues • Anger issues • Apathy

  8. How are they identified? Wristbands Badges

  9. How does S.M.I.L.E. work? • Students having problems can approach the mentors who can be easily recognised by their wristbands and badges • They can also ask Mr Cook, Amy or their Year Advisor to arrange for them to meet up with a mentor • Meetings will only occur in school time during breaks and before school, and only once or maybe twice a week.
