  2. What is the iron? Iron is a serving device ironing, that is smoothing the fabric with the help of the high temperature and the pressure. The ironing is acting, because under the influence of the temperature bonds are loosening in particles of polymers forming fibres of the fabric. When fibres are hot, under the pressure irons are stretching and they are keeping the shape after cooling down. Some fabrics like e.g. cotton waters require also applying.

  3. The first irons In the past already in VIII in. Chineses applied pans with kindled coal in agent of ironing the silk. In XVIII in. a one-sidedly smoothed block of metal constituted the iron (irons - hence the name), with the handle. After heating, e.g. on the plate of the kitchen range, the thermal inertia of this block let for holding by a few minutes the enough high temperature the ironing be effective.

  4. After cooling it was necessary again to heat the iron through putting on the stove. The shape of the iron resembles the base, with triangular finished with the tip from one side and with the flat edge from the side of the "heel"; this shape became widespread also in next, more modern structures on account of the convenience of the ironing.

  5. Development of the device A structure was improving the iron, in which above with "foot" a small hearth was being put to charcoal what putting in it slices of the heat, sustaining the high temperature of the iron enabled, without the need to put it back every couple of minutes on the hotplate. Later charcoal was replaced with the iron bar (with so-called soul) heated up in the hearth.

  6. Electric iron Iron electric in 1882 a Henry Seeley invented, he put the inside electrically heated heating coil about the power of a few hundred watts, powered from home mains. Later a thermoregulator, allowing for keeping the demanded temperature with the accuracy up to a few degrees Celsius, as well as moistening devices was added to the iron what allows easily to irondifferent kinds of fabrics.

  7. Today's electric irons have far more funkcjii than it invented in 1882. They are weighing less and they are more comfortable.
