  5. Understanding Authority “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. “Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.” Romans 13:1-3

  6. Understanding Authority • For there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. • Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted

  7. Who are our Authorities? (Unmarried) – PARENTS Government – Laws and Authorities Church – Leaders Employment - Employers

  8. Moses to Pharaoh Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Letmypeoplego, so that they may worship me. Exodus 8:1

  9. Example of Respecting Authority When Pharaoh said, “NO!” What did Moses do?

  10. Paul and Authority • At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. • Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”

  11. New Testament Example Those who were standing near Paul said, “How dare you insult God’s high priest!” Paul replied, “Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: ‘Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.”

  12. Course Correction • The word of the Lord came to Jonah, …“Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

  13. Next thing God said… But the Lord replied, “Is it right for you to be angry? Jonah 4:4

  14. More Details • Peter received clarification of God’s Will: • The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.

  15. Peter Got It ! • “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean …

  16. Fuller Understanding • “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right”

  17. This was not new • “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

  18. This was Not NEW • “I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” • Isaiah 49:6

  19. Imparting Love • “I will draw you out into the wilderness and speak words of Comfort to you.” • Hosea 2:14

  20. Another Translation “Therefore I am now going to allure her;
I will lead her into the wilderness
and speak tenderly to her.” Hosea 2:14

  21. Context of “Wilderness” “And now, here’s what I’m going to do:
I’m going to start all over again.
I’m taking her back out into the wilderness
where we had our first date, and I’ll court her.
I’ll give her bouquets of roses.
I’ll turn Heartbreak Valley into Acres of Hope.
She’ll respond like she did as a young girl,
those days when she was fresh out of Egypt. • Message Bible

  22. “Allure Her” • in the future I will allure her; I will lead her back into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.… Therefore, lo, I am enticing her, And have caused her to go to the wilderness, And I have spoken unto her heart…

  23. Why the Wilderness? • And given to her her vineyards from thence, And the valley of Achor for an opening of hope, And she hath responded there as in the days of her youth, And as in the day of her coming up out of the land of Egypt. • Hosea 4:15
