  2. “The Tears of Jesus” • John 11:33-35 • Luke 19:41-44 • Matthew 26:37-38

  3. “The Tears of Jesus” • John 11:33-35 (3) • Luke 19:41-44 (1) • Matthew 26:37-38 (2)

  4. “ 41 As He (Jesus) approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He wept over it42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” – Luke 19:41-44

  5. Jesus wept because He felt the pain of the suffering of others. God did not create human beings for the purpose of suffering, yet countless have and still are in great pain today.

  6. “12 As He approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, His heart went out to her and He said, “Don’t cry.”  14 Then He went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.” – Luke 7:12-15

  7. We can cry like Jesus to show our empathy and concern, but like Jesus, may our heart go to those who are suffering, and help, in whatever ways we can. As we weep for others’ pain, let us HELP.

  8. As we weep for others’ pain, let us HELP We can help simply because we are Alive !! “17 It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to the place of silence;
18 it is we who extol the LORD, both now and forevermore.” – Psalms 115:17-18

  9. As we weep for others’ pain, let us HELP We can help simply because we are Alive !! “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, …” - Hebrews 12:1

  11. As we weep for others’ pain, let us HELP We can help simply because we are Alive !! 2. We can help because God has given us at least 1 gift each – so that even if we cannot help directly, we can help as a church.

  12. 2. We can help because God has given us at least 1 gift each – so that even if we cannot help directly, we can help as a church. 1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

  13. As we weep for others’ pain, let us HELP We can help simply because we are Alive !! We can help because God has given us at least 1 gift each – so that even if we cannot help directly, we can help as a church. We must help because we are the BODY of Christ. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27

  14. 3. We must help because we are the BODY of Christ. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27 “how can a good God allow this to happen” or (b) “where is God in the midst of such pain?”

  15. “how can a good God allow this to happen” or (b) “where is God in the midst of such pain?” • Answer to (a) : • The world is good, • The world is fallen, • One day, the world will be redeemed.

  16. “how can a good God allow this to happen” or (b) “where is God in the midst of such pain?” The Church is the Body of Christ – so where the Church is, so there God will be too.

  17. “how can a good God allow this to happen” or (b) “where is God in the midst of such pain?” Where there is suffering, there is our weeping Messiah, and now on earth, the Messiah takes form in the shape of the church. That is what the Body of Christ means. That’s why we must help – because we are the Body of Christ.

  22. “7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverent submission. 8 Son though He was, He learned obedience from what He suffered 9 and, once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him.” – Hebrews 5:7-9 • 3 Blessings of Perseverance • We will experience God’s sufficient grace • We glorify God when we persevere through our weaknesses (suffering) • We know we will have a good ending (like Jesus eventually).

  28. “The Tears of Jesus” / Our Tears For the Suffering of others, we weep, yet let us HELP as the Body of Christ For the Stresses and Pain we ourselves face, we weep, yet let us HANG on in faith.
