  2. 3D Rendering TeraDRE terascale Distributed Rendering Environment is a system for rendering 3D visualizations using clusters of computers. Purdue’s current TeraDRE is accessible both by campus users, and by TeraGrid users. Rendering on a single machine can often take hours, days, or even weeks. TeraDRE uses Condor to break up the render into smaller pieces and sends each one to be rendered on a separate machine, thus finishing the render in a fraction of the time. http://teradre.rcac.purdue.edu

  3. Java Web Start Interface In an effort to make the interface to grid resources more transparent to the user, TeraDRE jobs can be submitted through a user-friendly Java Web Start application. This allows users who have no knowledge of Condor or other grid tools to submit jobs and view the results through a graphical user interface. This also allows for platform independent use of the TeraDRE so that users can operate on whichever operating system is most familiar to them. http://teradre.rcac.purdue.edu

  5. Current Hardware & Software The current system utilizes over 5,000 linux nodes, but is designed to be scalable so more machines can be added. We are working on adding windows nodes to the teraDRE in order to support additional renderers. The system currently supports Maya, Blender, Gelato, and POVRay. In addition, we are expanding the system to other sites such as Purdue Calumet in order to provide additional rendering power. http://teradre.rcac.purdue.edu
