  2. Central Rappahannock Regional Libraryhosted the Discover Earth museum quality exhibit featuring interactive multimedia displays in Spring 2013. One of 10 libraries in the countryto successfully apply for this grant-funded traveling earth science exhibit which is part of the STAR Library Education Network led by the National Center for Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute. Their partners include: CRRL partnered with The University of Mary Washingtonto provide STEM exploration activities.

  3. Central Rappahannock Regional Library partnership with Undergrad students from the College of Education Elementary Science Methods class provided the following for Discover Earth– Created STEM activitiesfor the Exploration Tables & manned them. Helped with library classes. Developed a scavenger huntfor elementary aged visitors to interact with the exhibit. One for grades K-2 and another for grades 3-5 Developed curriculum materials for teachersto use in conjunction with their exhibit visit.

  10. CRRL is opening a MakerLab at the England Run Branch with equipment provided by the University of Mary Washington Education Department. Includes: PrintrbotJr (3D printer) Hummingbird Robotics Kit Squishy Circuits Rocket Launcher Wind Tube MakeyMakey Discover Electronics kit Soldering equipment Fall 2013: the partnership continues...

The partnership includes even more... • UMW students under the guidance of Dr. George Meadows will provide the following for our MakerLab-- • Staff the lab at specific timesand facilitate the interactions of customers of all ages on a weekly basis; after school and on weekends. • Develop a certification processthat will allow customers to use the equipment with minimal guidance. • Train library staff and volunteers how to use the MakerLab equipmentso that it can be open even more hours.

September 14th: Kickoff Celebration • Mark Frauenfelder, author of Made by Hand • Mr. Frauenfelder is editor-in-chief of MAKE magazine and co-editor of the collaborative weblog BoingBoing. • Festival of Community Makers • 32 Local community groups showcased their creativity, either with demonstrations or hands-on activities.
