Overtime, your outdoor furniture would show signs of aging, discoloration or stains. Though outdoor furnitures are built to withstand these conditions, they can not last very long without proper maintenance and care from its owner. GENERAL RULE OF THUMB Always check maintenance and care instructions from the furnitures manufacturer. Always wear protective instruments while working with chemicals or loose particles. Perform cleaning, especially painting on a space with as low humidity as possible. Start with light cleaning with 1/2 cup dishwashing liquid, a gallon of lukewarm water, damp cotton or microfber rag or toothbrush for hard to reach corners and leave to dry as much as possible. PLASTIC / RESIN BASED FURNITURE Cleaning Agent: 1/2 cup Baking Soda 1/2 cup Vinegar 1 cup Powdered Detergent For every gallon of lukewarm water • Using a sponge lled with cleaning agent, scrub off any visible stain on plastic surfaces. • Use a soft bristle brush for textured plastic or used toothbrush for hard to reach nook and cranny. • Leave for 5 to 10 mins. • Rinse off using a garden hose and microfber rag. • Leave to completely dry under a shade away from the sun. WICKER OUTDOOR FURNITURE Cleaning Agent: 1/2 cup Baking Soda 1/2 cup Vinegar 1 cup Powdered Detergent For every gallon of lukewarm water • Remove cushions and spray-off any dirt with pressured water from your garden hose. • Using a sponge lled with cleaning agent, scrub off any visible stains. Use a soft bristle brush for accumulated dirt within the weaves. • Leave for 5 to 10 mins. • Rinse off using a garden hose and microfber rag. • Leave to completely dry under a shade away from the sun. METAL OUTDOOR FURNITURE Cleaning Agent: 1/2 cup Dish Washing Soap For every gallon of lukewarm water • Damp your microfber rag with the cleaning solution to clean surfaces. Rinse with another clean water damped rag. • Watch out for rust build-ups or exposed metal parts. Use a sand paper with ne grit to remove the rust until bare metal is visible. • Once your furniture is free from rust spots, use a metal specifc paint similar your furniture’s nish as possible for the spots that you have sanded out. WOODEN OUTDOOR FURNITURE Cleaning Agent: 1/2 cup Baking Soda 1 cup Powdered Detergent For every gallon of lukewarm water • Clear up dirty surfaces with damp rag with cleaning agent and rinse with a different clean damp rag with clean water. • Use a soft bristle brush for dirt build-ups or used toothbrush for hard to reach corners. • Leave for 5 to 10 mins. • For painted or varnished wood with surface cracks, sand out visible cracks following the wood grain with sandpaper. • Touch-up sanded areas with the closest varnish color you can fnd using a paint brush or microfber rag. • For stained wood nish with discolored spots, make sure that all surfaces are dry. Sand and smoothen surfaces with sandpaper following the wood grain. • Apply staining solution to sanded areas with similar coloured stain solution using paint brush or rag. PATIO UMBRELLAS • Your patio umbrella frame could be made out of a variety of materials. Treat surfaces as you would using procedures above. • Spray a bit of oil on joints or other moving parts. Then wipe of excess with a clean rag. For fabric Canopy Cleaning Agent: 1 cup Powdered Detergent For every gallon of lukewarm water • Hose down the canopy until it’s completely wet to soften accumulated dirt and grime. • Spray affected areas with cleaning solution and lightly scrub with soft bristle brush. • Rinse with tap water from a garden hose. • Leave to completely dry under a shade away from the sun to avoid color fading. For synthetic Canopy Cleaning Agent: 1 cup Powdered Detergent 1/2 cup Vinegar For every gallon of lukewarm water • Hose down the canopy until it’s completely wet to soften accumulated dirt and grime. • Spray affected areas with cleaning solution and lightly scrub with microfber rag. • Rinse with tap water from a garden hose. • Leave to completely dry under a shade away from the sun to avoid color fading.
