Building a Fire Pit

It’s a great place to share stories, play games, make conversations or to just simply relax under a blanket of stars outdoor while keeping ourselves warm. Building your own fire pit on your backyard is not always an easy task. But with help from a family member or two and a little bit of elbow grease, the results can be very much rewarding for years to come. LOCATION 12 Feet 5 Feet Find the best suitable location on your property which is at least 10 feet away from any structure that may burn or catch fire when the pit is burning. 10 Feet Your area must be an open space of approximately 12 feet x 12 feet wide for this build. A good spot would be somewhere with access to the kitchen or patio with a water source nearby. 3 feet diameter burning pit PIT 12 Feet 5 feet diameter pit wall 3 1/2 feet resting space Prep Work - DIGGING Mark a three feet diameter inner ring and a five feet diameter outer ring on the spot you have chosen. The area between the outer ring and inner ring will serve as your trench. 12 inches perimeter wall Dig your trench about 1 foot deep and the pit base at 6 inches deep. Fill the trench with 6 inches of gravel. Level the gravel with the base by tamping until it is compact enough that your foot won't sink if you step on it. 6 inches pit base 6 inches of tamped gravel trench BUILDING Lay out your bricks around the perimeter of the base while chipping an angle on the left and right corners with a chisel and grinder to make a perfectly round three feet circle. Make sure that all bricks are placed evenly leveled from each other. Set lines of thick masonry adhesive on the top surface and lay out the next layers of bricks while frequently checking that all bricks are leveled with each other until you reach approximately 6 inches above ground level. Fill the gap between the bricks and the soil with concrete. Let everything dry and fill the base of the pit with 6 inches of gravel. Your fire pit is now ready, and everyone should be excited for the night. You can dress it up further with a few Adirondack chairs around this comfortable space as well as cushions for added comfort and backyard aesthetics.
