  2. Motivation Why did we decide to re-design umbrellas? Hard to find a perfectly fitting umbrella in markets Different sizes are not available for most existing umbrellas We want to take into consideration both the anthropometry and people’s preference Target Population What is our target population? General US adult population

  3. Data Collection How did we get the data? Using a questionnaire to collect both the anthropometry data and preference data in our class.

  4. Data Collection Measurements of 7 umbrellas we provided

  5. Data Collection Anthropometry data Stature Weight Waist circumference Bag length and width Widest part circumference Hand to floor distance Top to floor distance Angle of holding the umbrella

  6. Data Collection Preference data Umbrella size-diameter Umbrella length Shape of handle Fold times

  7. Results Data Collection

  8. Data Collection Results 0:No fold 1:one fold 2:two fold

  9. Normal Distribution test

  10. 3D model L D

  11. Extrapolate Model

  12. Preference Umbrella data for Nhanes 07-10

  13. Existing Umbrella Sample

  14. Sizing and Optimization . where: w1 = w2 = 0.5 subject to: Limits: 5th & 95th percentile values
