Christians and the Theatre • Earliest Christians disapproved of theatre • If it’s not from God, it’s the Devils • During Medieval period suppresses theatre • Starts to see a use for it, especially in teaching illiterate masses the bible Since Theatre tended to be over glamourized in the Ancient world, the Church did not approve

  5. Changes in Genre • Liturgical drama • Morality plays • Farces • Masques

  6. Shift in Christianity • Shift from the Glory of Christ to his suffering • Suffering was more relatable to people of Europe • Images of Christ on a cross
