  2. Today’s Objective Teachers will understand the framework for professional development concerning writing, reading, technology, and professional learning communities

  4. Work from Last Year Writing Common Core Standards Middle School: 28 standards to 9 High School: 29 standards to 9

  5. Work from Last Year Language • 3 Common Core Language Standards

  6. Overall Middle School: Reduced by 60% 2010-11: 63 standards 2011-12 25 standards High School: Reduced by 55% 2010-11: 56 standards 2011-12: 25 standards

  7. Objectives for the 2011-2012 School Year • There will be four objectives that we will focus on for the entire year. BIG PICTURE

  8. Objectives for 2011-2012 School Year Objective 1: Teachers and teacher leaders will model, implement, and reflect on what research says are best practices for teaching writing.

  9. Objectives for the 2011-2012 School Year Objective 2 Teachers and teacher leaders will model, implement, and reflect on how to integrate writing, reading, discussing, thinking, and creating within the classroom.

  10. Objectives for the the 2011-2012 School Year Objective 3 Teachers and Teacher Leaders will model, implement, and reflect on how to create effective and affirming feedback for students in the writing process.

  11. Objectives for the 2011-2012 School Year Objective 4 Teachers and Teacher Leaders will study how to use Professional Learning Communities to support the above objectives.

Workshop based model Teachers presenting to teachers Teachers studying with teachers • Each session you will walk away having at least experienced : • a model • a strategy to utilize • research supporting and explaining strategies • a chance to reflect

  15. How are we going to achieve these objectives? • Provide Professional Learning Community time across buildings to reflect, brainstorm and create. This will happen each 3 hour inservice Aug. 10th Oct. 19th Jan. 4th March 9th

  19. Transitions • Random Groups:8:40-10:00 Please look at your room number given to you and report to that room for writing discussion. If you don’t have a number please come up here and see me. Grade Level PLCs 10:10-10:55 • Go to your grade level taught. If you teach more than one please look at the signs outside the auditorium or ask one of your presenters.
