  4. Middle School Tasting Lessons SNAP -Ed • 7 Lessons (citrus, sweet potato, salad greens, berries, melons, dried fruits, and tomatoes) • Ready to pilot next year (Lynn)

  5. Las Cruces High SNAP - Ed Tastings • FACS class teaches Health Classes • Seniors teach Freshmen • 3 Tasting lessons (Fruits, Grains, Vegetables) Bulldog Broadcasting • Nutrition Minutes

  6. FUEL UP to PLAY 60! Dairy Max Lynn participated this year • Kick 0ff in October • Student facilitated “Brain Breaks” over PA system during each afternoon • Flag Football tournament – lunch time • Healthy snack tastings • 5th out of 250 schools in NM Camino Real applying

  7. GAME ONAction for Healthy Kids Mesilla Elementary • School Based SHAC started • President’s Council on Physical Fitness • International Cooking experiences run by teachers (with parents)

  8. FOOD PLAYNMSU Cooperative Extension • Assembly style • Emmy Award Winning Play about healthy eating and exercise • Performed at Sunrise and Loma Heights

  11. Take 10! Fall 2010Dept of Health/Healthy Kids Las Cruces and Mesilla Elementary • Incorporates exercise and nutrition into core subjects through 10 minutes breaks each day for 50 minutes a week • Evidence Based • Teacher training on August 12, 2010

  12. Marathon Kids- Fall 2010Blue Cross/ Blue Shield and Dell • Goal – Each student walks 26.2 miles during 6 months • All elementary schools • PE Administered (tracks student progress)

  13. 2010-11 School MenuLCPS Nutrition Services, Shamrock, Mesilla Valley Cowbells, NM Ag in the Classroom • Theme “Agriculture in the Mesilla Valley” • Artwork competition among elementary students – Money awards, hung at Southern NM State Fair and featured in menu calendar • Each student gets meal menus as a calendar for whole school year

  14. Professional Development DayCDC, LCPS District Nutrition Advisory Council • Theme “Incorporating Nutrition and Exercise into Core Curriculum” • Saturday, January 23, 2010 • 137 Teachers, EAs, and Nurses attended • 6.5 hours of continuing education credit
