  11. The Black Eyed Peas In 1989, Will.i.am. and apl.de.ap. met in Los Angeles as eighth-graders. They performed with a break-dancing group, called Tribal Nation. They both developed an interest in creating hip-hop music, as well as dancing to it. In high school, the two singers and dancers began a duet, calling themselves Atban, a tribe beyond a nation. In 1992, will.i.am and apl.de.ap signed a record contract with Ruthless Records. They quickly made an entire album for Ruthless, but it was never published. Taboo, their third member, was introduced to the group. They met at Ballistics, a Los Angeles break-dancing club. The three members renamed themselves, The Black Eyed Peas. They signed a major label contract in 1997. After signing the contract, Kim Hill became a back-up singer, but she was replaced by Fergie in 2001. In 2003, The Black Eyed Peas released their third full-length album, Elephunk. In this album, “Where is the Love,” became the number one hit. Back to Last Slide
