ABCD is all about… • Identifying and mobilizing the assets of individuals, especially those who are “clients” of social services • Building relationships among community members, especially those that are mutually supportive • Giving community members more roles and power in local institutions; citizens lead efforts • Believing that everyone has gifts and everyone must give gifts

  2. 6 TYPES OF COMMUNITY ASSETS Individuals – people we know, people we label Economy – businesses, commerce Associations – informal and formal groups Physical – spaces and places Institutions – formal organizations Stories – memories, experiences, histories

  3. Neighborhood Resource Centers: • Are a strategy rather than a specific place • Reduce the “silo effect” • Are designed to build relationships between community assets and connect them to needs in the community • Are designed to promote community development from the inside out • Create low cost/no cost solutions to neighborhood vulnerabilities
