  4. If an item is 30% off--- • What percent do you pay? • 100% - 30% = 70% • Whole minus part is what is left

  5. If an item is 30% off--- • Jack bought a jacket for $45. This was 30% off the original price. What was the original price? • Answer 70% of what is 45?

  6. Increase or Decrease • The furniture store marked the table up 75%. It sells for $450. What was the wholesale price? • 100% + 75% = 175% • Answer 450 is 175 % of what?

  7. Thing to think about • Is the original asked for? • Is the new more or less than the original? • Should the % be more or less than 100?
