  1. A World Turned Upside Down! The Battle of Yorktown By Elisa Leonard

On August 1781, they heard that General Lord Cornwallis was heading to Yorktown, VA. • They were in New York and New Jersey at this time and it takes a long time to get to Virgina. • After the Battle of Saratoga, the French joined the war with the Patriots. • After the French arrived there were 8,800 Patriots, 7,800 French and only 6,000 British. • They were almost ready!!!!

  3. In Williamsburg on their way down to VA........ • Here they met Lafayette who joined them on their journey to fight. • Their plan was to have the French surround the British by sea and have the Americans surround them by land.

  4. After 5 days of planning…. • After 5 days of planning, the 2 forces flabbergasted Cornwallis. • Cornwallis surrendered on October 19th. • At the Surrender Ceremony, Cornwallis faked illness so he wouldn’t be shamed at the ceremony. • So General O’Hara, his substitute, stepped in for him.

  5. And Guess Who Won???? • THE PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!!!! • Without the French, the Patriots could of lost the whole war.  • King George 3rd wanted to continue the war… but it didn’t happen for ole’ king slappin. • Even though smaller battles continued, that was the last major battle of the Revoultionary War.
