Morning Routine • School begins at 8:35 am, children are allowed to enter classroom at 8:00 am • Welcome message & instructions • Unpack & get last night’s homework out • Write down tonight’s homowrk • Assigned work listed on the board • Daily benchmarks, objectives, and essential questions • Check planners, collect notes, etc. • Attendance & Lunch

  5. Reading8:45-10:15 FCAT tested subject • Reading groups • Vocabulary – learning or reviewing • Comprehension (Cold-Reads) • Fluency – practice • Writing • Spelling Questions?

  6. Cold Reads • First, underline the title • Second, read ALL the questions first and mark an “X” at the end of any answers that you may think aren’t correct • Third, read the passage. While reading underline any information that pertains to the questions. • Next, revisit the questions and SCAN the passage. Place two fingers at the top of the passage and scan down the middle, reading the words your fingers touch. Most answers are found in the middle of the passage. • Finally, double check your answers to make sure every single question is answered and that you picked the best answer for each question.

  7. Specials10:20-11:00 • This year, we are offering the following Enrichment classes: • Physical Education (2) • Music / Drama • Art • Instruments • Spanish • Library • Science

Math Manipulatives11:00-11:40 • Students are able to spend this time with manipulatives and practice skills for mastery • Students are also given the opportunity to work in small groups with teachers for better understanding • Great time for additional practice of FCAT tested material • PLEASE GET FLASH CARDS FOR SUBTRACTION AND ADDITION FACTS Questions?

  9. Lunch 11:52-12:22 • Lunch accounts • Students are held to the same expectations. Questions?

  10. Reading Enrichment12:25-1:05 • RTI Interventions • Students are grouped according to need and sent to other 3rd grade teachers • Not part of grade average

  11. Math1:05-2:05 FCAT tested subject • One math lesson per day • Consumable math books • Math homework –practice workbook • Math grades are a mixture of assignments and tests. Questions?

  12. Singapore Math • Singapore is number ONE in the world. • I have been trained in it and will be teaching Singapore Math to the class. • Refer to the hand out

  13. Science 2:05-3:00 • Whole group, labs and centers • Assignments, quizzes & tests • Science Fair, tentatively scheduled for Spring • Stations are scheduled for Fridays – count as an assignment Questions?

  14. Social Studies 2:05-3:00 • Social Studies book • Social Studies Workbook • Projects • Not a graded subject but will be in 4th grade Questions? .

  15. End of Day Procedures3:00 • Clear/clean desks • Pack Up • Classroom jobs • Start on homework • Listen for dismissal

Homework • Third graders will be getting no more than 30-40 minutes of homework each night • Students write homework in agenda each day • Spelling HW –Tic Tac Toe spelling only to students who do not get a 100% on their pretest. • Cold Read for practice – not a grade • Math Practice workbook • Students work extremely hard during school and need some recharge time • Friday homework – one page of math

  17. Important Information • Please check agendas and initial every night. Look for notes or behavior color changes. • “Behavior issues” in the classroom • Teacher and parent roles • AR • Thursday folders – go home Thursday, PLEASE sign and bring back Friday.
