RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT 2012 A communication action Research Executive Agency • COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN (Awareness campaign, wp1) • Timely • Addressing the public at large in all its components whichever their age and scientific background • Clear and simple message (s): “Researchers are amongst us” • Mobilising both off and on line tools • At national/regional level Programme of activities (activities during the night, wp2) • Aimed at allowing direct contact and exchanges between researchers and attendees • Addressing general public in all its components (specific programmes for children welcome • Balanced combination between science-researchers linked activities and fun • Combination with art, literature, theatre welcome as likely to attract « science- reluctant » audience  Large scale (average 5.000 attendees per project, according to the area involved) • 3

RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT 2012 European wide Research Executive Agency • Call open to EU Member States and Associated Countries • Possibly trans nationality (although delicate to implement except in cross border cases) • Possibly one single participant (provided sufficiently representative of the scientific community of the area, through “indirect partnership”) • Links between projects in the same country and throughout Europe most welcome 4

RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT 2012 A NIGHT Research Executive Agency TAKING PLACE DURING THE EVENING • Possibility of planning earlier activities (afternoon) for children • Core activities however to take place during the evening • Typical duration as from 5-6 p.m. until 1-2 a.m. LIMITED TO FRIDAY 28 SEPT NIGHT-SATURDAY 29 SEPT EARLY HOURS • Possibility of inserting the Night in a longer lasting programme (Week, festival, days…) • Researchers ‘night however to be the « cornerstone » of the longer lasting event (Opening, closure, special momentum) and to plan specific activities • 6

RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT 2012 Reminder: schedule Research Executive Agency • Publication (OJ, Participants’ Portal): 27 September 2011 • Information Day (Brussels, COVE) 10 October • Deadline for submitting: 10 January 2012 • Evaluation: 13-18 February 2012 • ESRs and initial information letters: as from 20 February 2012 • Invitation to negotiation to successful applicants: as from 27 February 2012 • First Grant agreement signed: as from June 2012 • 6
