  2. OVERALL AIMS Develop a knowledge exchange network to encourage: • Networking (Current, former CERN Personnel) • Federate the CERN Community • Knowledge exchange • Facilitate and optimize the knowledge exchange process Sustainability - identify, maintain, develop

BACKGROUND • External Mobility programme (end 2008-now) • Keen interest expressed from institutions for knowledge exchange • Knowledge exchange given Management endorsement as important role for CERN • Technology Transfer – Knowledge and Technology Transfer • CERN Global Network launched 29 May 2010, > 400 Members

WHY HAVE A CERN COMMUNITY • Already exists informally, need to bring together, develop • International nature of research at CERN • Capitalize on wide variety of networks – identify specific profiles, expertise, partnership opportunities • Ambassadors for CERN and for its activities • Keep in contact with current and former Personnel worldwide Key players • Current and former members of CERN personnel • Research Institutes/Universities • Companies from Member States

  5. CERN AS A KNOWLEDGE HUB • Generated at CERN in the framework of its activities; • Broughtinto CERN by people from institutions worldwide; • Exportedoutside CERN through people’s mobility, training, technology transfer, procurement, etc.

CERN GLOBAL NETWORK • Dedicated web site • Information on knowledge exchange activities • Additional visibility for partnership opportunities across the Network • (recruitment, technology transfer, training, sponsorship) • Member database • Professional networking with CERN “Alumni” • Useful data on people’s mobility and career evolution in Europe • Discussion forums for special interest groups • Interactions between individuals and institutional Members • Link job seekers with potential employers • Exchange of best practices between institutions in specific thematic areas • Organization of knowledge exchange events at CERN
