  2. What’s it about? • Together 4 Africa is a combination of many charities coming together to help and support the struggling communities in Africa and its people.

  3. Development Goals • Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger • Achieve universal primary education • Promote gender equality and empower women • Reduce child mortality • Improve maternal health • Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases • Ensure environmental sustainability • Global partnership for development

  4. Mustard Seed Project • Mustard Seed Project is working with the community of Mgongeni, in Mombasa, Kenya to empower the people to take action to improve their environment and basic facilities. • There’s a school that is in an apartment building. • There’s 125 students and the school is quickly outgrowing the building

  5. Act 4 Africa • Act4Africa delivers effective HIV/AIDS prevention education by challenging cultural norms and encouraging change in attitudes and behaviors. They encourage women to take control of their sexual health.

  6. Network For Africa • Network for Africa helps people rebuild their lives and communities after the devastation of war and genocide in Rwanda, Uganda and Chad.

  7. Water and sanitation • 42% of Africans still have no access to improved sources of water • About 700,000 children die before their 5th birthday from being sick from the water • Since they do not have toilets, millions of people practice “open defecation”

  8. Objectives of Together 4 Africa • To raise the profile of the development activities that are needed in Africa and of ones we are familiar with • To build strong, equally valued relationships to inspire and boost motivation • To increase fund raising opportunities • To create working partnerships

  9. Why they’re empathetic • This organization is empathetic because they see how people in Africa are suffering and some have even gone to Africa to see what is actually going on. • They want to help in any way they can • Empathy begins with awareness • “Put yourself in someone else’s shoes” • Charities succeed because of empathy
