Erosion and Deposition

Agent: Moving Water. Erosion and Deposition. Moving water is the major agent of erosion that has shaped Earth’s land surface (p. 73). Runoff is water that moves across Earth’s surface (p. 73). If you think about it, it is part of the rock cycle!.

  1. Agent: Moving Water Erosion and Deposition Moving water is the major agent of erosion that has shaped Earth’s land surface (p. 73) Runoff is water that moves across Earth’s surface (p. 73) If you think about it, it is part of the rock cycle! http://www.dkimages.com/discover/DKIMAGES/Discover/Home/Science/Earth-Sciences/Geology/Rocks/Rock-Cycle/Diagrams/Diagrams-6.html

  2. Amount of runoff There are 5 main factors that affect how much runoff there is in an area. 4. Shape of the land: steep or flat 1. The amount of rain 2. The amount of plants and vegetation 3. The type of soil 5. How people use the land: parking lot or park

  3. Runoff = erosion (usually) Rivers: large streams! Types of water channels • Rills: the running water creates little grooves in the soil Gully: a large groove Streams: a channel where water is flowing downward

  4. Erosion by Rivers Evidence: Waterfalls Deposits: Alluvial Fans Evidence: Flood Plains Evidence: Oxbow Lakes Evidence: Meanders Deposits: Deltas

  5. Under- Groundwater Erosion Chemical Weathering Caves Stalactites and Stalagmites
