  1. What is Roadwise Review? Roadwise Review is a computer-based screening tool that identifies physiological changes that can affect driving. This scientifically validated screening tool developed by AAA helps drivers drive safely longer by screening for driving health just as they do for medical health.

  2. Why has AAA createdRoadwise Review? By the year 2020, one in five people will be 65 or older. In response to these changing demographics, AAA created Roadwise Review to help senior drivers stay safe. Also, there are cognitive and physiological changes that affect us all as we age. Roadwise Review can help identify these changes before they become evident on the road.

  3. Are there any special tools required to use Roadside Review? Roadwise Review requires a computer with Windows XP, 2000, ME or 98 operating system, located in a room large enough to accommodate the tests.

  4. Who will have access to Roadwise Review results? Roadwise Review is designed to be used in the privacy of your own home or in a private location at a senior center. Once you have completed the screening tests, you can print the results or they are lost once you exit the program. You may choose to share these results with others, but you control this because no data is saved once you exit the program.

  5. What should a driver do if Roadwise Review tells them they are at risk? Recommendations are provided for drivers who have measurable losses in safe driving ability. If these scores are significant enough, the user may be referred to a doctor, optometrist, physical therapist or a driving rehabilitation specialist. If there are no measurable losses, this score becomes the baseline score against which future scores are measured.

  6. How long does it take? Can I do it alone? Roadwise Review takes approximately 40 minutes. Certain modules require a second person to operate a mouse and/or keyboard while you sit at a specified distance away from the screen. Other modules are completed directly by you using a mouse. You control who has access to the results.

  7. How often should I complete Roadwise Review? For best results, the tests should be completed once or twice each year, to help you notice changes in your safe driving abilities. Small impairments, caught early, can be corrected. This can keep you driving longer.

  8. AAA’s goal for senior mobility: As the leading motorist advocate agency, AAA is dedicated to keeping drivers on the road as long as safely possible. When it is no longer possible to drive, AAA is committed to promoting viable alternative transportation programs.

  9. Availability Through its partnership with OSA, AAA is offering the program free at senior centers, area agencies on aging and councils and commissions on aging throughout the state. The CD-ROM will also be offered for sale at a nominal price ($3 for AAA members and $5 for non-members) at AAA branch locations.
