  4. Beat Based on a 3-2 clave/rumba rhythm Comparable to a “hambone” rhythm Some of his songs don’t change chords and emphasize rhythmic motifs Guitar Rectangular boxed guitar made by Gretsch Cigar-Box shape The Bo Diddley Beat and Guitar

  5. Musical Impact • 1963 - played in the UK on a bill with the Rolling Stones (little known at that time) • Was one of the first male musicians to include females into his band • Shared the stage with The Grateful Dead and the Clash
