  1. You have a lot to say about a lot of things. Your blog becomes a platform to share your thinking. Resolve to be thyself; and know that he who finds himself, loses his misery. ~Matthew Arnold, 1852

  2. Learning Targets • I can create a digital writing space (blog) where I will publish my writing; • I can post to my blog and embed a picture or video; • I can learn about my personality and learning styles and write and publish an About Me page on my blog.

  3. First, let’s create a blog • Go to www.edublogs.org • Go to FREE • Use a recognizable username and ID to create your blog • You will need an email.

  4. Before we go on… • Record your blog address, username, and password in your Journal or in the notes on your phone. • On a note card write: • Your name • Your blog address • Your username • Your password TURN THIS IN TO ME TODAY!

  5. Give your blog a title • IDEAS: • Think about what image you want to present to the world • What are your interests? Hobbies? Goals? • BE CREATIVE! (and school appropriate) “English blog” is boring • BE SURE TO SPELL CORRECTLY! Submit = Creation should be complete!

  6. Log in to your Dashboard • Everything you do to the appearance • Everything you write or upload • Everything you want to publish YOU DO IN YOUR DASHBOARD

  7. Notice the left side; everything you need to change, create, write is on the LEFT.

  8. Personalize: Go to Appearance  Themes. Choose a look you like (you can change it at any time)

  9. You have a title, now let’s go give your blog a tagline(Insight about yourself) • Go to Settings Tagline

Now, let’s do Links • So you can navigate easily from your blog to mine, and • So you can read and leave comments on your friends’ blogs • Go to your Dashboard  Links  Add new • - http://myersworldx.edublogs.org/ • Students, share your blog address with 3 friends and link 3 of their addresses on your blog

  11. You can delete all the generic links except Help & Support (you might need this)

  12. Now, a big one-- let’s add a post • A post is what you write and publish on the main page of your blog. • Later, when I say, “Post that writing to your blog” this is what you’ll do… • In you Dashboard, go to Posts Add new

  13. Write something! Notice: you save AND publish on the RIGHT

  14. Embed an image or video • Go to Posts Add new • Hover over the camera/music notes next to Upload/Insert on the left under the title. Click. • See the three options across the top? • In another window, quickly search the web for an image of a book or a student. Save it to the desktop. • Now, go back to your blog and add the image

  15. You can edit and more here. Make sure you Insert into Post AND Save Changes

Let’s take a look at more options • Go back to Appearance • You can change the LOOK of your blog here • Click on Widgets • Depending on the theme you chose, you can add different things like a calendar, a clock, an avatar to your blog by moving the desired item from the left and dropping it in the right side bar. Take a look. You can explore and experiment here later.

  17. Now, On to Pages • Find Pages on the side in the Dashboard • If you already have an About Me page you will Edit it • If you do not have an About Me page, Add New and create one • While you’re at it, create another page and title it Book Reviews (if your teacher says so)

  18. We’ll write and post the content of your About Me page after we take a couple tests!

  19. To see your blog from the outside view, click your blog name in the tool bar—two over from Edublogs.
