  1. Disability Grants For Students All students are entitled to apply for a tuition fee loan, which is a maintenance loan, covering living costs. There are additional grants available for students with disabilities, that may need specific equipment or support to complete their higher education. Disability Students' Allowance (DSA) is available to students with a disability throughout the United Kingdom. If your disability will impact your studies in any way while you complete your higher education, you are entitled to apply for this allowance. This allowance is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students with physical conditions, mental health conditions, long-term medical conditions, and learning difficulties. Disability Students' Allowance can help with the purchasing of necessary items, such as Braille paper, Dictaphones or extra photocopies computers, recognition software, nonmedical support such as note-takers, sign language interpreters, mentors, and readers. If you are unable to use public transport due to your disability, additional allowances may be allocated for travelling. Your household income does not impact the DSA, which is determined by your disability and whether you are studying on a full or part-time basis. Undergraduates can get up to a maximum of £25,000 a year. Full-time students can get a specialist equipment allowance of up to £5,849, covering them for the whole course. They can also apply for a non-medical helper allowance of up to £23,258 per year and a general allowance of Up to £1,954 a year. If you are a part-time student, you can get a specialist equipment allowance to cover the whole course of up to £5,849, a non-medical helper allowance of up to £17,443 per year, and a general allowance of up to £1,465 a year. Postgraduate students can claim up to £20,580 a year. The Disability Students' Allowance does not need to be repaid and can be claimed in addition to other forms of student financing. You will not qualify if you already receive NHS Disabled Students Allowance or a similar university funding. The amount is often paid straight to the organisation that provides the products and support you need. To be considered for DSA you need to complete an application form, which you can get from Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland, and the Student Awards Agency for Scotland. Students who qualify will be required to go through a needs assessment, which determines what level of funding they receive. Another disability grant for students is the NHS Bursary for Students grant, which is funded by NHS England and Wales, Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorate, and the Department of Health, Social Service and Public Safety in Northern Ireland. This allowance is offered if you incur additional costs due to your disability when studying. The NHS Bursary for Students covers similar costs to DSA, it also requires an assessment of your needs to prove your eligibility. In addition to your studies, you may be able to claim additional allowances towards daily living costs while you complete your studies.

  2. The allowance you receive is determined by your disability and how it impacts your ability to study. You can claim from the Department of Work and Pensions. Once it is received, you will be asked to have an assessment to identify what you need to complete your higher education studies. About Us: Access for Students is a United Kingdom-based DSA assessment specialist, government registered to provide students with an assessment, identifying the equipment and support they may need to complete their studies. The company comprises a friendly and knowledgeable team, offering comprehensive advice for students who are eligible for DSA and have been told by their funding body to get an assessment of their needs. Access for Students does not provide funding. Their service is to help students identify what they need to complete their studies, such as a sign language interpreter or a specialist note-taking.
