  2. State of the Jonsson School New Faculty for 2011-12 Update on New Programs Jonsson School 25th Anniversary New Initiatives

New Faculty since Fall 2010 Mechanical Engineering WonjaeChoi (PhD MIT; Harvard postdoc; fluid mechanics) Yaoyu Li (PhD Purdue; mechatronics) Wooram Park (PhD Johns Hopkins; robotics) Xin Lin Gao (PhD Wisconsin; nano-mechanics, modeling) Computer Science VibhavGogate (PhD UC-Irvine; machine learning) Mark Gabel (PhD UC-Davis; software engineering Zhiquiang Lin (PhD Purdue; security) Systems Engineering Steve Yurkovich (PhD Notre Dame; controls) Several more offers are outstanding. We hope to have at least five more join in Fall 2011. This will give us over 120 faculty in ECS; a 30% increase in faculty in the past 3 years.

  4. Status of Mechanical Engineering M.E. faces serious challenges in 4 areas: Enrollment pressure Faculty hiring Research space Approval for the PhD program

  5. Status of Bioengineering • Bioengineering currently has 4 full-time faculty • The BS program in Biomedical Engineering will begin in Fall, 2011 with 20-50 students. • The MS and PhD programs and faculty research are going well. We hope to recruit several more faculty over the next year.

  6. Status of Systems Engineering and Management • Steve Yurkovich is on board • Certificate and MS Degree programs are in full swing. • Next Steps • Form a Department • Form the Department IAB • Hire faculty and develop programs

  7. Jonsson School 25th Anniversary Celebration Planning for the 25th anniversary of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science are progressing. • Some events being planned: • Panel discussion and banquet • A distinguished lecture series • Engineering Week activities • An Engineering Open House in Spring 2012 • A written history of the Jonsson School
