  6. How to Evaluate Effectively • Show that you are interested. • Look directly at the speaker or leader. • Don’t use delivery skills – spot light should be on the speaker or leader. • Avoid exaggerated gestures.

  7. Avoid Whitewash • Do not choose only to praise the speaker. • Do not cover up flaws with flattery. • Give the speaker or leader some challenge.

  8. How to Say it • Speak for yourself – use ‘I’ instead of ‘we’ • Avoid judgmental words and phrases • Personalize your language, e.g., • “I was confused”, “I was impressed when” • Don’t repeat a point once said. • Avoid words like “never” and “always.”

  9. Promote Self Esteem • Encourage and inspire the speaker to participate again. • Give honest and sincere praise. • Give helpful direction when necessary • Always end your evaluation on an upbeat note.

  10. Your Conclusion • The Speaker or leader should feel motivated and eager to begin working on next project. • Finish by pointing out a particular part of the person’s efforts that you really liked and the effect it had on you.
