  6. Main Idea and Details •The house(main idea)- is the largest part of a beach house. *It contains the roof (topic) •The main idea (house)- is a complete sentence, including the topic, that tells what the passage is mainly about.

Main Idea and Details •The support beams(supporting details)- give support to/hold up the house.*Without the beams, the house would be destroyed in a flood. •The supporting details (support beams)-are extra information that proves/supports the main idea.*Without the supporting details, the main idea is not a proven statement.
