JSI –Denver Partnership JSI – Denver began in 2007 to implement the CDC HIV Integration checklist developed in partnership with the CDC HIV Integration project. • Screening tool as been administered to 8 sites in Region VIII • 7 Title X sites • 1 model clinic for the HIV Prevention Project- Urban Indian Health in Denver

  3. Purpose of the Checklist To help clinic’s better prepare for HIV integration services. To assess their readiness to apply for various HIV funding opportunities such as the next OPA funding cycle, state funding or other foundations To educate clinic staff, administrators and funders on good HIV prevention services and integration To measure improved proficiency in HIV prevention by regional reproductive centers

  4. 7 Key Steps to HIV Prevention • Discuss desired integration level with clinic staff/administrators • Determine current level of HIV services • Determine clinic proficiency at current level • Assess clinic capacities • Development training and technical assistance plan • Conduct training and TA • Evaluate training and TA

  5. Region VIII focused on Primary Prevention based on the CDC’s Technical Guidelines for Integration of HIV in Family Planning. Region VIII is focusing on reaching and enhancing levels 1,2,3 • Level 1 Education (baseline) • Level 2 Education and Counseling • Level 3 Testing Services • Level HIV care for the positive client

Integration Checklist Results Family Planning Clinic #1 Total 63 scored out of 238 26.58% Family Planning Clinic #2 Total 208 scored out of 238 87.81% • Level 1 HIV Prevention Education 23 out of 80 = 28.75% 74 out of 80 = 92.50% • Level 2 HIV Counseling 13 out of 65 = 20.31% 61 out of 65 = 93.84% • Level 3 HIV Testing 27 out of 93 = 29.03% 73 out of 93 = 78.49% • Level 4 HIV Care for positive Women NA

  7. Tips for Tool Use • The tool is rather long, 8 pages • Best administered in person or over the phone with clinic manager/ HIV program contact • Scoring table used to enter results is fairly easy • Remember to share results with clinic administrators • Great opportunity to inform/educate on the new CDC guidelines
