  3. When did the philosopher make his contributions? What could have influenced his ideas? Around 1651 Hobbes wrote his best work Leviathan Inspired by the political events at the time  Civil War : Monarchy/Oliver Cromwell’s Republicans Thomas Hobbes was on the Republicans side 

  4. Major contribution to western legal thought? Main concepts contributed? Leviathan established the foundation for most of Western political philosophy Social order was made by human beings and therefore could be changed by human beings “The life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short” Existence of a social contract

  5. View on Nature of law? What does law do? Laws role in society? What is the nature of legal government? Believed human made law was more important than natural law Hobbes perception dependably a great deal on the existence of a superior power Citizens made a social agreement with ruling power

  6. What criticisms did Hobbes have of other schools of thoughts? Majorly focused towards the church Described the church in his famous writing the Leviathan “GOD” in Hobbes view was the first cause in the chain of events.
