Accreditation • Both a status and a process • As a status, accreditation provides notification that an institution, program or individual meets standards of quality set by an accrediting agency • As a process, accreditation reflects the fact that in achieving recognition by this agency, the institution, program or individual is committed to self-study and external review, not only to meet standards but to continuously seek ways in which to enhance the quality of service provided

  3. Common Accreditations • CPA Accreditation of laboratories • State Registration of Clinical Scientists • EQA accreditation of techniques/services • CMGS Best Practise Guidelines

  4. Other forms • BSc degrees from accredited universities • The United Kingdom Haemophilia Centre Doctors' Organisation (UKHCDO) • Mandatory training for staff must be accredited

  5. Why is it Important? • Ensuring that all independent laboratories provide services of equivalent quality • All staff within a laboratory are trained to a similar level and are all working to the same best practise guidelines

  6. Why is it Important? • Give clinicians confidence that results will be accurate • Public confidence in laboratories • Confidence in staff between laboratories
