  2. Your FIRST assignment • Fold the index card in half. Make a name card so I can learn who you are. • First names only. • Bold lettering please. • Inside the card, list three words that describe where you are at this very moment, right here, today.

Examples… Overjoyed – calm – thankful – glad – frisky - Peaceful –anxious – bored – curious – tired - Shy – alone – mad – upset – hopeful – bitter - Daring – unsure – cold – tearful – jubilant Relieved – pessimistic – at ease – content - Wonderful – kind – chillin’ - amazed – interested – quiet – free – satisfied – ornery – rebellious - Restless – scared – nervous – ready – brave – angry… or make up your own word…

  11. Before we mention the “do nots” of this class…here are the do’s  • Explore. • Experiment. • Create • Make friends. • Learn teamwork. • Develop a Respect for the environment in everything you do. • Feel good about yourself.

Things you CAN do in here… • Learn 100 different plants. • Learn how gardening is a total immersion into discovering new things about yourself. • Learn how everything in the environment is CONNECTED. • Learn how gardening make you FEEL good. • Volunteer for hands on assignments. • Rewarded for helping class start on time. • Participate in multiple FFA Events after school.

  13. The do not’s of my class:  • Cell phones, texting… don’t even think about it. • Will be taken up. • Shut them off now. • Pen and paper?> Do not ask me. • Respect for tools, computers and furniture and equipment.

  14. My pet peeves… • Bookbags – always outside. • Walkmans, MP3s, etc. – Not allowed in this class… • If your ears are open… • You might accidentally learn something!

  18. The Road Ahead of Us • 18 weeks of school = 90 days of class. • 90 days x 1.5 hours = 135 hours each class. • That’s a lot of togetherness, eh? • It would be like…: • 60 movies together… • 8 trips in the car to the beach and back! • Let’s get started!

It’s not ARE you smart, but HOW are you smart? • Repeat after me: “We will all choose to do the right thing.” • Make wise decisions. • Every student today has all A’s so far!

  21. Upcoming Assignments • 3 Ring Binder notebook with 8 tab dividers: Due Thursday for a grade. • Horticulture Handbook: Quiz this Friday over the contents of the Handbook. • Seed Lab: Bring in THREE packs of seeds of your choice. See pink handout. Seeds are due on Monday for a lab grade.
