  1. Generating electricity – Applying knowledge lesson Learning objectives; To know and understand the different energy resources available to us. (level 4/5) To be able to explain energy changes when using these resources. (level 6) To be able to work as a group to evaluate the different energy resources. (level 7) To peer assess our work.

  2. Your task; • You will be shown a model of a new power station which is planned to be built near here (see the map) to supply electricity. • Your job is to work together in a group of 5 to create a presentation to win the contract! Explain the energy changesthat occur in electricity generation. You must also explain any alternativesthat may be suitable for the area!?? Will they present problems?! • We will present the work to rest of class and peer assess tomorrow.

  3. The Area Info; Average wind speed = 8m/s (this is quite high) Average sunshine = 4hr/day Resources available = estimated 10million tonnes of coal from local coalmines over next 20 years. The dam at Loscoe is 50 metres above surrounding land and is fed with 5million gallons of water daily via local small river. Local farms produce 15000 tonnes of waste plant / animal matter yearly. Proposed Site

  4. Key skills!! • Teamwork. • Leadership. • Interpreting information. • Evaluation. • Explaining to others. • Problem Solving. • Communication skills (verbal and written. Remember good English to help win the contract!!) • Good presentation skills. • Maths skills (think about efficiency!)
