  2. Location • Built near city of Espheus, Turkey • Completed at around 350 BC • Only ruins remain

  3. Purpose • Built under the Achaemenid Dynasty of the Persian Empire • Used as a religious institute • Employed for praise of the Artemis (or Cynthia or Diana or Cybele)

  4. Uniqueness • The temple was designed by Pliny • The sanctuary took only 10 years to complete • The massive shrine is well known for its size which is three times the parthenon and numerous amounts of reconstruction • One technique was massive amounts of labor from slaves

  5. Ancient Foresight • A model in Istanbul, is practically a mold of the original, as the size is the same • This fantastic structure is currently maintains the title as one of the Seven Wonders of the World
