  7. Scheduling Process • Students selected classes • 8th Grade Teacher recommendations • MMSD students or staff will input them in the computer • Students from Parochial schools • Changes to courses • Unscheduled students • Individualized Special Education transition occurs later this year

  8. FOUR BLOCK SCHEDULE Block 1 8:20-9:50 CLASS TIME Block 2 9:57- 11:31 ANNOUNCEMENTS CLASS TIME LUNCH 11:31-12:26 (Clubs & Tutoring) Block 3 12:26-1:56 CLASS TIME Block 4 2:03-3:33 CLASS TIME (7 minute passing time)

  10. Credits • Earned when a student receives a grade of A-D in a class • 1 Term= 9 week quarter in 8th grade • Class meets every day for 1 term=1/2 credit • Class meets every day for 2 terms = 1 credit

  11. Required Classes for 9th Grade Students • English 1 • Regular • Honors • US History • Regular • Honors • Biology • Regular • Honors • Math • Algebra • Geometry • Honors Geometry • Other • Physical Education 1 • Health Education 5 Credits!!!

Graduation Requirements • Earn a minimum of 26 credits • Meet the following specific subject and credit requirements: • 4 credits of English • 3 credits of Social Studies • 2 credits of Math (Algebra and Geometry - 3 for college) • 2 credits of Science (3 for college) • 1.5 credits of Physical Education • .5 credit of Health • .5 credit of Computer Literacy • Option A: 1 credit of fine arts and 1 credit of career and technical Education OR • Option B: 2 credits of world language, .5 credit of fine arts and .5 credit of Career and Technical Education.

  14. What about World Languages? • Post High School Planning • Options include: • French • Spanish • German • American Sign Language

  15. What about Music? • Music is offered for a “skinny” (45 minute) block everyday for the entire year • Band and Orchestra can be taken for a full 90 minute block. (Sign up for extended-2 credits) • There is no extended chorus option • Skinny Courses-algebra and geometry honors • Students may only register for a skinny math class if music is one of their selections.
