  2. Molarity • M = moles solute/liters of solution • Uses the symbol M • Example: • 2 moles of glucose are dissolved to make 2 liters of solution. • M = 2 moles/2L = 1M • That means there is 1 mole of glucose per 1 liter of solution.

  3. Page 23, Problem #1 • Determine the grams of solute needed to make 1.00L of a 1.0M solution of NaCl.

  4. Page 23, Problem 2 • Determine the grams of solute needed to make 1.00L of a 0.50M solution of sodium nitrate.

  5. Dilutions • Use a concentrated stock (standard) solution to make a more dilute solution. • Start with a small amount of the standard solution and add water to lower the concentration. • Since moles of solute are constant, can set up a proportion. • M1V1 = M2V2
