  3. Background • Started in 1917 with a gift of $26.50 from the Kansas City Club (leftover profit from the international convention) • Initiated by RI Pres Arch Klumph • First gift that year was to the International Society for Crippled Children. • Now more than $55M is contributed annually.

  19. Recognition Credits After becoming a PHF, each dollar that member contributes generates: • a contribution credit to that member • a recognition credit which that member can only use to “recognize another person”.

Customary Recognition Procedures • Members pledge at least 100/yr • First $500 matched by recog credits from existing PHFs to reach the PHF level • As new PHF contributes his next $500 he designates recognition credits to help the next in line. “paying forward to help others become PHFs” but also “is a way of paying back loan of recognition credits”
