  1. ~Self Assessment~ Tina Woolstenhulme MW 10 AM English 1010

  2. Table of Contents • Genre Knowledge • Rhetorical Knowledge • Public Writing • Writing from Sources • Design • Goodbye

  3. Genre Knowledge • I think that I did a good job on the profile with explaining how Ryan had to do with the topic of movie ratings but not so well on giving examples of how he knew what he did or why he felt the way he did. • On the rest I felt like I had a very strong argument when I should of, but I lacked sources and information. I just kept wanting to stick to my two major sources (DVD and the MPAA website) that had over whelming amounts of information. • In the position I think I did good on letting the reader know my position and let him know why I felt this way. • For the instructions I had a hard time because it was hard for my topic to create instructions for the movie rating system because there was nothing I could think of that the reader could do for the topic other than follow how the MPAA rates movies.

  4. Rhetorical Knowledge • I believe I did pretty good on finding the debate with in the larger issue. Meaning the sex vs. violence and the censoring in movies, in the major topic of a bias rating system. • I struggled on the drafts with getting my counterarguments across but then I think I did better by expressing both sides of the issue in the report for example, the MPAA vs. Moviemakers. It was hard because I found more information against the MPAA rather than for.

  5. Public Writing • In my writing I did drift away from the argument I would start off with, then I would find my way back to the main issue. • After drafting I switch things around and cut and pasted things so that my topics would flow together better than jumping around. • Some of my papers would start sounding like a different genre. For example my postion paper started to look like a report but after drafting I believe I got my points across nicely.

  6. Writing From Sources • I think that writing from the sources was the hardest for me. I tried looking for information all over but was not finding anything. Than you helped me find a lot of information on the CQ Researcher and it helped me so much. • I also would start talking about the documentary and could not stop because of all the information it had and because it supported the side I agreed with. • I do think I did good by letting the reader know who said something or if it was from an article, web site etc..

  7. Design • I think that I did the best on this because I have never had a class where teachers want style included. • I enjoyed putting pictures, charts, bold headings and using multiple columns. I liked this because it was like writing an article in a paper or magazine. • The pictures and chart I choose really helped the reader understand the point I was trying to get across and who or what I was talking about. Pictures like Jack Valenti, the DVD and the chart showing how PG-13 movies make more profit.

  8. Goodbye! • I really enjoyed this class. I believe it really helped me grow as a writer. I have never enjoyed a writing class as much as this one. Good teachers like you make coming to school fun and exciting to learn! So thank you! • Sorry for the cheesy remarks but it is true. • Tina Woolstenhulme
