FACTS • Small fire in RTI ARF on Saturday, August 25, 2001 • RTI convened a panel of independent experts to assess the suitability of the ARF clean-up process and resumption of full operation. • The expert panel has determined that at no time were any of the animals in the facility compromised.

  3. FACTS • Assessment included both animals in the facility at the time of the study, and those brought into the facility after the fire. • The expert panel determined that "the animal research facility was an excellent one prior to the fire and is improved as a result of the remediation actions”

  4. CONCLUSIONS • RTI is still waiting on analysis of evidence from the fire to determine its origin • Preliminary results have indicated that the fire was deliberately set.

  5. CONCLUSIONS • RTI has taken additional security measures, including • installation of additional surveillance equipment outside the facility • increased security within the facility
