  2. Finding The Right Leadership Coach It may be tough to find the appropriate leadership coach. However, by following a few principles, the search time may be cut in half and the return quadrupled. In this post, I'll discuss some points to think about as well as instances of how I've utilised them in my own leadership growth. Do you want to learn more? Visit Jeanne Mayo. "Why am I looking for a coach?" is the first and most important question. This may seem to be a simple question, but it is an essential one. In my essay 21st Century Leadership: Coaching and Leading are Inextricably linked, I argue that many people's perception of a coach is that of a sports coach. Most sports coaches, on the other hand, offer teaching and mentoring rather than coaching. This should come as no surprise, given that most of us met our first coach at school, who was a professional educator! As a coach and a professional educator, I am constantly conscious of distinguishing between teaching and coaching. If you're searching for a coach, you should know if you want mentorship and teaching (receiving advice from someone else) or coaching (discovering the guidance you already possess).

  3. I recently enquired about coaching with a writer who has ghostwritten a number of best-selling leadership books. I was interested to learn more about him after seeing that he was now coaching. When I talked with his assistant, she told me that I would have to sell my book concept as if I were looking for a publisher, detailing the book's contents and emphasis, as well as discussing my publishing and marketing plan. This accomplished author was clearly teaching and mentoring, not coaching, based on this list of criteria. Mentoring or teaching, not coaching, is when someone assesses your approach and offers you advice or guidance. A well-trained coach will ask you what you think rather than telling you what they believe. You can learn more at Youth Leader.

  4. Second, if you're undecided about whether you want coaching or mentoring, get both! When you don't know what to do, a coach can help. When you don't know how to accomplish anything, an instructor can help. People often believe they need a teacher when they just require a coach. As a leadership coach, I've spoken with a number of people who believed they required leadership training when all they needed was some coaching to discover what they already know. Eric Ring, a multimillionaire entrepreneur who spends a lot of his time helping others find their untapped leadership potential, was one of the people that truly helped me with this. When a storm came in with heavy rain and strong gusts two years ago, I was working on staff at Eric's Ultimate Leadership camp. The unexpected storm resulted in damaged trees, fallen tents, and the need for some urgent safety measures. We had well over 200 people in camp. I took control of a small group and began directing operations as a war veteran and seasoned leader. Eric altered my perspective with two questions (coaching) and a direction when I was able to get him on the radio (teaching). Eric is one of those rare people that can both coach and educate, so seize the opportunity when you come across one. You may find more details about this at Youth Pastor.
