  1. 3 Ways to Find a Therapist Specializing in Women Issues Anyone experiencing challenges such as depression and anxiety can benefit from professional help. And if you are a woman, you may be better off choosing a therapist specializing in women's issues. Men and women have their own unique challenges and thus, their emotional, mental, and psychosocial needs vary. Therapists whose areas of expertise are women's issues can better help female clients address their personal needs, especially if the issue is about sexual orientation, gender, pregnancy, motherhood, and domestic violence. So, how do you find a therapist specializing in women's issues? Here are three tips. 1. Ask for referrals. The first thing you can do when searching for a therapist is to ask around. Your primary care physician will be one of the most trusted sources who can refer you to a therapist. Aside from your GP, you may also ask your friends and relatives for recommendations. You may call institutes for therapists in your location, too. 2. Search online. If your GP and friends cannot recommend a good therapist, then 'shop' online. You will find plenty of reliable sources and directories that list licensed and qualified psychologists and counselors near you. Aside from their location or contact information, directories may also include details about their qualifications and experience in the field of counseling, as well as info on their credentials and licenses. 3. Consider the therapist's expertise and approach. Finding a therapist specializing in women's issues is not enough. You also have to consider many factors such as their style and areas of expertise. Make sure that the therapist you will choose has successfully handled cases like yours in the past. Also, ask the therapist about their style or approach. Do they use cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, strategic intervention, or combinations of these orientations? This is an important question to ask because this will determine how the counseling sessions will be conducted.
