  2. Durgapur, once a wilderness, has come a long way; with a number of industries under its belt. It is located about 160 kilometres from Kolkata, and is part of the Burdwan district. • Durgapur is known as the dream child of the great visionary Dr. Bindhan Chandra Roy, the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, played an important part in developing this locality. • This locality is famous for Durgapur Steel Plant, a unit of SAIL (Steel Authority of India). • There are three other plants, Durgapur Thermal Power Station, Damodar Valley Corporation & N.S.P.C.L., and also some chemical, metallurgical and engineering industries at Durgapur. • As this place provides job opportunities, many people are migrating to the locality; thus increasing the demand for flats in Durgapur.
