He married his high school sweetheart, Jean, when they were both attending the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from UT with a business degree in 1982. The Gholsons now want to raise their two children in San Antonio.

Gholson claims it was the smartest thing he has ever done, aside from asking his high school sweetheart Jean to marry him. He and Jean live in San Antonio with their two children.

He enjoys NASCAR and has attended several Indy 500 races. In his spare time, he is rebuilding an MGB roadster which he hopes to drive around the country with his wife and enter into a race when it’s finished.
