  3. A normal daily online poker tournament may have an average of 50 entries and on weekends it might increase to 300 but often you would find poker sites announcing good value tournaments to attract volumes and this results in entries reaching as high as 1500. In this article, we will take a look at how to approach MTT with 750 and above entries.

  4. Observing the Table: In large field online poker tournaments the table that you are assigned initially will remain the same for a go Middle Stages :The middle stages should have you focused towards playing a more aggressive game and increasing your stack attempting more steals and raising in a position more than the usual frequency. You would want to clear the bubble with a decent stack size rather than to bleed away from antes and blinds to justify a min-cash result.

  5. Late Stages : The Final stages are all about adjustment. If the players are loose you play tight and vice versa. As a general strategy play according to position and stack sizes keeping in mind that you will face a lot of heads up pots here and single pair hands go up in value compared to early stages.

  6. Rebuy Time Period: A lot of online poker sites allow rebuys till late registration and a few levels after it as well. If your bankroll allows for it we would suggest taking advantage of this and try to accumulate as many chips as possible during this period but once you get a double or triple upshift gear towards conserving your stack as rebuy will not give you the same no of chips. In essence, it is only after the rebuy period ends that the real tournament begins.

  7. Getting tickets via promotions or contests: It really impacts your bankroll if you can save on even one bullet every now and then. Try looking for active promotions at your site or join a platform like www.whisperingshouts.com to od duration. Since the field is large your immediate concern should only be towards the opponents on your table. Don’t think about ranks or average stack size but rather observe player tendencies on your table. It doesn't matter if all the other tables are playing loose or tight you have to play according to the players on your table. If they are playing too tight increase your opening ranges and bluff frequency, if they are playing too loose try value betting and trapping. Think of your table as a SNG and try to be in the top 3 in terms of chips on your table. If you can maintain that for a decent duration then your chances of clearing the bubble automatically increase.

  8. The Timeline: You might think that since the blind interval is the same in all MTT then timelines should remain the same in case of low and high entries but you have to take in the factor of chips in play. Say everyone gets 5000 chips in the beginning then for a 50 entry tournament the chips in play would be 50 * 5000 i.e 250000, for larger fields this increases and thereby allows larger chip stacks to survive many more levels which leads to longer gameplay. Large field online poker tournaments can easily last for an average of 4 hours or above so keep that in mind when planning to enter. Make sure that you can play for the entire duration in case you run deep since the last thing you want is to take unwanted risks approaching the final table

  9. LA or TA :  LA and TA stand for Loose Aggressive or Tight Aggressive and for those who don’t know these are playing styles. Loose Aggressive players will play a wide range of hands preflop and play aggressively post-flop if they connect, Tight Aggressive players, on the other hand, will enter pots less frequently but when they do they play them very aggressively. In large filed we suggest a mix of both with a 70% weightage to TA and 30% to LA. You should always be positionally aware and put that 30% when defending blinds or playing in position.

  10. Early stages : The early stages are your base building stages and you should do it carefully with patience. Aim at winning a few small pots every two orbits and work towards gradually increasing your stack. Avoid flips even if you think are ahead by an average percentage and with marginal made hands you should consider folding as a default option. Don’t try to get in ‘all in’ situations unless you have the nuts or a premium hand pre-flop and yes avoid draws even if you have the outs, Remember a double-up will not make you win the tournament but a bust out will send you home. You will often find yourself in multi-way pots in these stages and your range should be adjusted to keep that in mind. At the first break which normally is around one hour, your aim should be to have at least twice your initial stack.
