  2. What’s The What? ‘What’s The What?’ is a tool that helps you: • Decide what project you want to work on • Generate new ideas and improve existing ones • Explore the dimensions of potential projects

  3. Process • Get into teams • Brainstorm selection criteria • Evaluate selection criteria • Report back • Evaluate potential projects • Report back / Reflections

  4. Team Selection Door A Door B Door C By Surname (alphabetically) By Height By Date of Birth InstructionsEveryone needs to get up, stretch and then organize yourselves into an ordered line, based on which door you selected. You have 3 minutes!

  5. Brainstorm Evaluation Criteria Ground Rules There are four basic rules in brainstorming: • Focus on quantity • Withhold criticism • Welcome unusual ideas • Combine and improve ideas Process • You have 5 minutes • Aim to generate at least 2-3 ideas each • Take your Post-its … GO!!!

  6. Brainstorm Evaluation Criteria Examples: • It would be easy to do • It would have the biggest impact • It would be fun • We could do it quickly • We know how to do it • It would get a lot of attention • It fits with Sias culture

Evaluate Selection Criteria ✔✔✖ Votes: No • Part 1 (no talking): • Taking it in turns, put check marks besides what you think the best two criteria. • You may put a cross to block any option that has votes. • Part 2 • Write the 3 highest scoring criteria in the column headings on the evaluation sheet. Do not include any that have been blocked. • Debate pros / cons for blocked criteria. Up to two can be added to evaluation sheet if consensus is reached.

Where you able to reach consensus? • Describe how the process worked in your group. Was it easy? What was the most challenging part?

  9. Project Evaluation Evaluate each short-listed idea against each criterion, scoring on a scale of 1 to 10 Voting time again! Report Back / Reflections • What project did you select, and why? • Does it feel like the right choice? • Any insights on the potential projects? • Did you have the right selection criteria? • Did you have the right ideas? • How tough was it to narrow down the selection criteria and the potential projects? • Was the process useful? • What did you learn? • How could the process be improved?
