  1. Accelerated Resolution Therapy Psychotherapy Partners Offers Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.) Options for Our Patients Accelerated Resolution Therapy, also known as A.R.T., is a therapeutic approach that offers real help for managing issues with post-traumatic stress disorder, grief, depression, anxiety-related disorders and addiction. By addressing the source of these issues, A.R.T. can provide the help that patients need to deal with these issues effectively. Therapist Emy Everhart of Psychotherapy Partners has extensive experience and training with A.R.T. Emy can provide the guidance and support to navigate this integrative therapy and to achieve the best results in managing issues associated with trauma, anxiety and addiction in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Along with the rest of the Psychotherapy Partners team, Emy offers a caring approach and fast results for psychotherapy treatment for trauma. Accelerated Resolution Therapy – Treating Trauma A.R.T. is useful for patients who have experienced trauma and can provide assistance in the following ways:      Forgetting the pain of traumatic experiences Erasing disturbing images Helping to eliminate triggering reactions Reprogramming stress memories and images Creating positive approaches and effective procedures for dealing with stressors A.R.T. combines methodologies from several other therapies into a cohesive and holistic approach to trauma and stress in the clinical setting. It has been recognized since 2015 as an evidence-based therapy by the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. Additionally, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has named Accelerated Resolution Therapy as effective for patients with post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. How A.R.T. Works Accelerated Resolution Therapy incorporates many traditional psychotherapies, including Gestalt, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive behavioral therapy. Elements from each of these therapeutic modalities are combined to create a cohesive and comprehensive treatment plan for patients dealing with traumatic events, anxiety, depression and addictive behaviors. Some of the unique features of A.R.T. include the following:  Voluntary memory replacement is a method used to address memories of trauma by helping patients to replace disturbing or traumatic images with more pleasant and positive ones. This

  2. can assist patients in forgetting the pain while remembering the facts associated with their past traumas. By reprogramming stress memories and images and replacing them with less disturbing imagery, A.R.T. can help patients move forward to eliminate triggering reactions and to improve their emotional health. A direct and interactive approach is also characteristic of A.R.T. Therapists who specialize in this treatment modality take an active role in encouraging patients to recall traumatic memories and to process them more effectively. The techniques used may include in vivo exposure to trigger responses and then to intervene with therapeutic interactions to help patients to address and deal with the emotional issues associated with previous traumas. Rapid results are a key feature of A.R.T. Patients can expect to attend one to five sessions within a two-week period. Each session is usually between 60 and 90 minutes long. During this time, the therapist will take a proactive approach to identifying and addressing traumatic issues or problems associated with anxiety, depression or addiction.   By employing the most effective procedures, A.R.T. is a practical way to achieve fast results during psychotherapy treatment for trauma. By erasing disturbing images and replacing them with more positive and neutral images, this integrative therapy can assist patients in forgetting the pain and moving forward with their lives. Who Can Benefit From A.R.T.? Because it is an evidence-based and result-driven therapeutic modality, A.R.T. has helped patients suffering from a wide range of issues that include the following:        Post-traumatic stress, including combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder Anxiety and phobias Addiction and substance abuse issues Sleep problems Panic attacks Depression Grief and loss Because A.R.T. is designed to produce fast results, it can be of real benefit to patients who have had difficulty in managing their emotional reactions after severe trauma that may include abuse or sexual abuse. By giving patients the tools they need, A.R.T. allows patients to move past traumatic memories and to reprogram the images and emotional reactions that trigger stress and discomfort. This can significantly improve the quality of life for patients and can help them move forward with greater success.
