  1. June 20, 2017 A Surrogacy Agency Talks About the Conditions That Prevent Couples from Having Kids If you have dreamt of starting a family all your life only to be stopped by certain medical conditions, there is no reason why you should give up just yet. Medical advancements have provided you another option: surrogacy. When you and your partner choose to have a child through a surrogate, you get to bring to the world your own child without having to physically undergo pregnancy. In this scenario, your surrogate will carry your baby to term. This is a great option if you have been struggling to conceive for some time now. Page | 1

  2. Many people have considered surrogacy in recent years. In fact, the number of infants born through gestational surrogates have nearly doubled in recent years, going from 738 babies in 2004 to nearly 1,400 in 2008. But how can you determine if having a child via a surrogate is the right choice for you? If you and your spouse may be experiencing certain medical conditions, it may be safer for you to consider surrogacy instead. Uterus Abnormalities Some women have an abnormally-shaped or divided uterus, a condition also known as uterine septum. This condition, along with other uterine anomalies, accounts for about 10 percent of miscarriages. In this particular case, the embryo either can’t implant or can’t receive nourishment vital to its survival. Also causing miscarriages is a weakened or incompetent cervix. During a normal pregnancy, the cervix starts to bulge as the fetus begins to grow during the first trimester. A weak cervix, however, can’t hold the fetus in as this happens. Surgery is recommended to correct both uterine septum and an incompetent cervix, though some women might not welcome the idea of going under the knife. Infertility Problems Contrary to popular belief, infertility afflicts both men and women. In fact, nearly nine percent of men in the U.S. between the ages of 25 and 44 have seen a doctor due to infertility throughout their lifetime. For men, infertility may be caused hormonal or genetic disorders such as Klinefelter’s syndrome and Cushing’s syndrome. It may also be caused by conditions, including diabetes and cystic fibrosis, which disrupt one's testicular or ejaculatory function. On the other hand, infertility affects 12 percent of American women between the ages of 15 and 44. It may be due to several reasons, including an inability to ovulate during a menstrual cycle, obstruction of the fallopian tubes, or medical problems such as polycystic ovary syndrome. Page | 2
